RE: Canadians workamping in the United States

NOthing against Candians in general, but if they are working in the US without going through proper Immigrations procedures, they are in violation of US law the same as illegal Mexican immigrants are. As a nurse, I have had to compete with Canadian nurses for jobs in the US. So as an experiment, I decided to go over to Canada with my nursing license to seek work. I was stopped by Canadian Immigration at the border. I was NOT allowed to even seek work over the Canadian border as a nurse. Fair is fair. I can't work in Canada without jumping through their hoops and vice versa. Canadians can't even legally work as volunteers without documentation in the US.

RE: Blue tank use for black water??

I agree with most in this thread...use your tank for whatever you want. We however have stopped using ours for black. No matter what we did after we tried it, it stunk for a very long time. It is difficult to rinse and get those tanks clear of whatever was in there. We had an issue of a co camper wanting to borrow our blue tank for dumping his black and grey. That was another matter altogether. We didnt' loan it because by that time we were just using the blue tank for grey water. The co camper was miffed at us...oh well..our tank...not his.

RE: Odd Question On Travel Trailer for us to travel in

Those morning when you wake up with snow on the ground or cold and rainy conditions are my favorite sometimes. It is so cozy and warm inside our little trailer. We go out anyway and get newspapers, something to cook, a movie rental or two and then we veg out inside our little home away from home. I have an afghan and several quilts for warmth. I will admit, it would get old after 3 or 4 days of that, but I certainly don't mind a day or two of hanging out inside my self contained portable home.

RE: Odd Question On Travel Trailer for us to travel in

We have had our 30 foot coachmen travel trailer for 9 years. We do repairs and patch it up as needed. We paint what needs painting, grease things well, and we had some water damage in the floor that my husband repaired after sealing up the roof. It still looks good and everything works great. WE have no slides, but we have everything we need in this trailer and it works for us. We did purchase the add a room, a bumper bike rack and we got a generator just recently. We ARE big and we manage to slide beside each other just fine in our little portable home. All we have added inside is a memory foam mattress for sleeping and some storage baskets. I honestly don't think you need to go expensive to travel. Just keep it in good repair and keep on rolling. I think we could be fine in a shorter trailer too. WE got the longer one for the bunks so our granddaughter could camp with us, but she is a teen now and we rarely camp with her anymore. Have fun whatever you do.

RE: If something should happen to me....

This post reminded me of my father. He is disabled and needy. He needs his meals prepared, help with daily living, walking, , well just about everything else. But, he still tells people HOW to help him. My poor poor mother. She feels it is her job I guess....the old way. Until my father draws his last breath he will be telling people what to do and how to do it.........with barely a thank you. Very sad indeed. He has alienated many of those closest to him with his need to control minute details.

RE: Pet wash on the road

My little dog fits right in the bathtub. I have trimmed him with the clippers right on the picnic table. I try to manage the hair from going all over the site...I pick up and throw it away. There are two nice little businesses right there if a campground would allow it. Pet washer and attendant. Has anyone ever printed their own business cards and put them on the bulletin board at a campground? I am thinking of simple sewing/repair/alterations. Maybe if we go for several months this year, I will just print up a few cards and try it. I have a small portable 3/4 size machine and a separate pack of sewing notions and tools for travel.

RE: what's your favorite camping dinner??

We just had the lobsters, corn, rolls, and wine dinner at the campsite last week at Seawall in Acadia NP in Maine. We live only an hour from there and we go every year. Get those lobsters right off the boat if you can. Oh, always get an extra lobster because toasted lobster rolls are really good the next night after the lobster bake.

RE: New Honda Eu2000i

My husband said we used about 2 gallons of gas in 5 days. Does that sound about right? I absolutely loved the convenience of it. Oh and the peace of mind that our batteries were being charged every time we ran it was good too. We have had to change batteries over or go get one recharged at a garage in the past. I hope to do more camping withoug hookups now too. That was part of the reason we got this generator.

New Honda Eu2000i

We just got back from Seawall campground in Acadia National Park, Maine. We spent 5 beautiful days exploring, fishing, walking, and eating lobster. This was our first opportunity to try out our new Honda generator with our travel trailerc because there are no hookups at Seawall. It was excellent. We ran everything except our AC......no need for that in Sept in Maine. The hours of use for generators are from 8am to 7pm. We used it a few hours in the morning for our coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer, heat, fridge, lights, tv etc. Then in the evening we used it while fixing supper and to watch the news. I was a little disappointed we couldn't watch a few of our favorite TV shows and some Red Sox games, but hey...we were camping and the campfires were very nice. I appreciate that people don't want to listen to generators in the evenings or all night long. We only had one neighbor who didn't go by the rules...and that neighbor ran their generator before dawn one morning. It is very annoying. It wasn't a nice quiet Honda either!! The most impressive things about our generator is the load it would take, how easy it started up, and the low noise level of it. A neighboring camper came over to see our generator and I think we sold him on it. He planned to go look them over at the Honda dealership. I know there have been a lot of threads about generators, but I thought I would share our first personal experience using one.

RE: For Employers - Workamper Package

We did our first camp host/workamping this past May. We were fine with just having our site free. We worked 16 hours per week, combined and we had to be present at the campground on Friday and Saturday nights. It was very easy for both of us. My biggest complaint was that the webpage for our campground said there was a full hookup site for the camp hosts NEW IN 2008! So, we expected that. The regular sites there only had electric. We had a beautiful site but no sewer or water. We weren't told that our FHU site wasn't finished or available for us until 2 days before we left from home to go to that assignment. Our plans were made and so we went anyway. But, it was a real pain to go to the sewer every week or so....and we don't really like using our little portable tank. We also had to fill our water tank and lug extra water several times a week. We have a travel trailer and we had to take everything down and move to the dump station every week. On future assignments, we will be very clear right up front that we expect what is promised.

RE: According to This Forum...

What is a game of washers? And, the only thing I disagree with is I do care if they don't pick up the dog poop...I do it and it isn't that hard.......makes for a much more pleasant environment for all those kids playing with scooters and crawling around on the groud playing.

RE: Strawberry Park in CT - STAY AWAY!!

I agree with the original poster here. We have stayed at Strawberry park twice, once in a popup and once in a travel trailer. The time with the pop up we were parked in about 6 inches of water before we left and the people next to us were rednecks with redneck kids who were loud, profane and nasty, and took up a good part of our site with their stuff. The time with our travel trailer we had the nerve to walk our little dog around our site and the manager came running to tell us we couldn't walk our dog there...on a leash with a poop bag in hand. Nope, we stay in the Foxwoods parking lot now and they are much friendlier and more accommodating.

RE: How do you feel: campgrounds that require a "newer" rig?

One of these replies reminded me of the elderly couple my husband I met in PEI Canada once. We were camped in our fairly new hard sided popup with the nice screen room. That couple camped across from us in their very old very tiny Burro trailer. It was so small it didn't look like an adult would be able to lie down inside. It was well cared for and their campsite was meticulous. The couple and their large puppy camped in that Burro. We became acquainted and the lady and I even went to play local bingo together to meet some of the locals. They were intelligent, sweet and kind elderly people and they had covered a lot of territory towing their little trailer. It was the absolutely neatest small trailer I have ever seen.........not fancy but neat! Campers (the people kind) and their rigs come in all shapes and sizes. I love that we are all different.

RE: How do you feel: campgrounds that require a "newer" rig?

My take on these campgrounds with restrictions on the age of RVs is that campgrounds are like communities. The reality is that communities have poor, average, rich, richer and richest residents In some communities all of these different income people can live within a block or even a few houses of each other. Not all the rich neighbors have new homes but they most certainly have nice impressively well cared for homes. I have a 1999 Coachmen TT with no slides. It is in good shape and my husband has worked hard to keep the exterior good and painted what needs painting. The inside is my job and it isn't shabby either. We are happy with it. I consider myself rich for having it and the means to use it, but I will take my business to campgrounds that allow all makes, models and ages of RVs. It's the diversity in a community or a campground that makes it interesting. If somebody can only afford a 1980 rig and he takes good care of it and his campsite and he is considerate, he is just as good a camper as anybody else there. If he is a pig about his camper, has leaky tanks or hoses, puts trash around, imposes on his neighbors lot, and is a loudmouth.....then the campground ought to kick him out!! I have camped next to some pretty obnoxious owners of brand new RVs....so the RV or the age of the RV shouldn't be the guage we use to size up our camping neighbors.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

We just bought our Honda 2000 this year. We haven't used it yet for anything. We do plan to do some camping without hookups after labor day. When we bought it and watched the demo on it, it was so quiet that my husband, the demonstrator and I could talk in normal voices while standing right over the generator. Everything we read about these generators tells about how quiet and efficient they are. I am hoping to prove all that is true within a few weeks. I absolutely hate loud generators and if I thought for one minute we were disturbing our neighbors with a generator, it would be turned off immediately. Hopefully noise won't be an issue with our new Honda.

RE: RGV, First Colony park

Notify the customer service for your credit card immediately and let them know. You can refuse to pay the credit card bill if the campground took the wrong amount. It is called a credit card dispute. That is one good thing about credit cards VS debit cards. I hope you didn't use a debit card.

RE: Campgrounds near DC?

Lake Fairfax county campground is really nice and in a very quiet place on a hill. There is a lake with a water park at the bottom of the hill from this campground. No water or sewer hookups but nice lots and electricity. The location makes up for the lack of services in my opinion. My husband and I camp hosted there in May. It's about 20 miles west of DC and close to public transportation.

RE: Maine

Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, and Moosehead lake region are our favorites. If you only have 3 days and you haven't been here before see Acadia national park. It has rocky shore, beaches, freshwater ponds and lakes and carriage paths. There are small mountains and the views are fantastic. You can bike, hike, swim, fish, camp, EAT, and tour around and you can do it on a free shuttle from your campground. That's my opinion as a Maine grown person.

Cutler or Machias Maine boondocking?

Is anybody aware of any State or Federal preserved land boondocking sites that a trailer could sit on for a few days? We are interested in Cutler Coast hiking and are looking for a cheap or free place to park the TT for a couple of days nearby. If there isn't anything, we will use Cobscook Bay State Park. Thanks.
